    So 120V and 240V stuff. Be careful :) if you don’t have it I’d recommend running some cat6e cabling while you’re there.

      Don’t run network twisted-pair cables in parallel with electrical wires if at all possible. The magnetic field produced by the AC in the electric lines causes packet loss

        It’s also against the NEC in the US, I think. People expect low voltage wires to be low voltage and handle them as such. If a high voltage somehow ends up touching a low voltage bare wire, your friendly Ethernet cable could turn deadly.

          I’m not an electrician and I haven’t looked at that part of the code before specifically but I have read in various sources over the years that it may be against code in some places, especially to run them in the same run/conduit. This may have made it into the newer US NEC, it would certainly make sense.

          But even still, if you run separate conduits (which would in all likelyhood make them code-compliant) running them parallel risks interference with data transmission .

          Which is a pain in the ass for doing old-work installs of low voltage.

        there is STP (shielded twisted pair) for that, but … just don’t. stay out of trouble and keep them separated
