So one time I unlocked my mom’s car with the remote from inside the house. I took a little while to leave though and the car has an automatic thing where it automatically locks again if left for a few minutes.
When I finally got to the car and pulled the door open, the relock triggered literally as I was halfway through opening the door. So it was kept half closed. Kinda like when you close it but don’t put enough force into it? Hard to explain. Anyway I felt like I was being pranked.
- That’s the most braindead feature on a vehicle and annoys me so much. If I unlock it, that means I want it unlocked. Please don’t do the opposite of what I want to do or do what I want for only a minute. Pisses me off. - No, the most brain dead feature is on my fucking volkawagen ID4. - It automatically unlocks when you approach with the fob. Then if you just pass by to go for a walk and don’t interact with it at all, it doesn’t re-lock again and you can see the lock status remotely, but can’t lock it… - Absolute garbage design by VW.
- You’d be pretty glad of it if you unlocked accidentally in your pocket. - And even more mad if your keys fell out of your pocket into the vehicle, then it locked - Most vehicles with this feature don’t relock if they detect a key inside the vehicle. - Most shouldn’t lock when they detect a key inside. - Sadly that detection is not very reliable in my experience.

- I’d take a vehicle being unlocked when it’s supposed to be locked any day of the week over being locked when it’s supposed to be unlocked.

- You can turn it off in every car I’ve ever used. I guess making it default is questionable, but modern cars make it painfully difficult to lock yourself out so it makes sense imnho.
- My mom got locked out of a rental car and had to pay a tow driver to break in because of this stupid feature. - Went grocery shopping, unlocked the car, dropped her purse with the keys inside and went to load the trunk. Car locked itself while she was loading. - That’s a dumb car. At least mine won’t lock if the keys are inside.
