Why don’t you fix it? Be the change you want in the community. Practice some tactical urbanism. Do the following:
No one will bother you. No one suspects someone in a high-vis vest, especially if they’re just working on some mundane object that no one would ever bother stealing.
Don’t wait for others to make your community better. Go out and fix it yourself.
Eh. Fixing it should be a dull thing. You know it’s only a relatively recent idea that towns or cities would be responsible for street maintenance. Historically, you and your immediate neighbors were responsible for paving the street in front of your home or business. Doing your part to maintaining public infrastructure should be a dull ordinary thing.
