I’ve had two wisdom teeth removed as a teenager since they were growing horizontally. The two others were left there because they were pretty far in, removing them was riskier and they weren’t causing any trouble. Gum was tender lately and this morning I realized this is because a wisdom tooth just erupted.
Moral of the story: there’s no age for coming out.
Non-violently I’d probably go for emerge (like a butterfly from a cocoon), as erupt sound kinda destructive (like a volcano). But I’m no expert, nor native speaker, so I just go by vibes.
I had my wisdom teeth emerge and withdraw back and forth for years - they seem to have settled now, but dont be surprised if yours gets a little shy from all this new attention and goes back into hiding for a bit.
erupt is technically the right term. it’s used in medical contexts. i agree that it sounds weird, but that is by far not the strangest phrasing in English, lol. (native speaker)
